If you’ve scrolled through Snapchat, TikTok, or Instagram, chances are you’ve come across the popular “fit check” trend where people, especially Gen Zers, record themselves sharing what they’re wearing and naming the marks of their clothes. .
But one “fit check” video, in particular, stood out this month, and it stars an unlikely duo: Grace Pettit, 24, and her grandfather, Liam Ryan, 86, aka “Gramps.” .
Pettit first shared the TikTok clip with her and her grandfather on Dec. 18 and nearly two weeks later, it went viral.

“Hello, I’m Grandpa,” Ryan began in the video. “We’re doing a fit check,” he added before launching into the details of his outfit.
“My jeans are a Christmas present. My shirt is a Christmas present. My sweater was given to me by my brother. And my sneakers…” he continued, before Pettit chimed in with further instructions for his grandfather.
“This is my new favorite video,” Pettit wrote in his post.
More than 1 million viewers have already watched the video and many have commented on how much they loved the video clip.
“This made my day,” wrote one commenter.
“I will NEVER get over this video, it’s my Christmas present this year,” added another.
“I’m about to cry, it’s adorable,” someone else replied.
Pettit, who lives in Hawaii but has been visiting his grandfather in New Jersey over the holiday season, told “Good Morning America” on Friday that it was his idea for the hilarious video.
Both Pettit and Ryan say they share a close relationship.

“We were sitting on the couch, hanging out, and I was like, ‘Okay, let’s do something. We’re both doing nothing.’ And then I forced Gramps to get up and make this video,” Pettit told “GMA.” “Obviously we had no idea that people would like it so much.”
Both Pettit and Ryan said they share a “very close” relationship.
Pettit and Reynolds visited Ireland together over the summer.

“Grace is so much fun to be with. She keeps me young,” Ryan told “GMA.”
Pettit added, “It’s so much fun having someone like Gramps in your life. He never fails to make me laugh.”
The duo said they didn’t expect their TikTok to resonate with so many online.
“He’s still in shock,” Pettit said of his grandfather’s reaction. “It doesn’t make sense to either of us, but as long as people are smiling.”
“I’m in awe. I couldn’t imagine it would be so interesting to anyone,” Ryan said.
But the retired boat racer did see the humor in his “fit check” clip.
“What I thought was funniest about the video is when I didn’t hear her say goodbye and I just repeated it all over. I thought it was funny,” she said.
“We’re happy that we were able to make so many people laugh and, you know, it was kind of funny for us and we’re glad other people saw it that way,” Pettit added.
