“I want to say that this is New York Fashion Week, this is the key fashion week for the United States and one of the top 3 fashion weeks in the entire world,” said the Merchandising Program Instructor WKU Fashion Designer Seth Howard.

A group of fashion merchandising students at WKU head to the Big Apple.

They will volunteer at fashion week in New York City next month.

“That’s definitely something I’ve heard people talk about and never thought I’d be able to experience it firsthand, so it’s definitely something I’ve been dreaming of for a while,” said Kathryn Beiter, Junior, Fashion Merchandising.

For the show on February 10, they will attend men’s fashion presentations.

They could be doing anything from registering guests for shows, helping designers showcase their work, guiding guests through the collection to point out design details and features, anything the agency needs them to do. to have a smooth show.

“I’ve always found it very interesting to learn more about behind the scenes, because we always see the runway and everything in front of the camera, but not behind the camera and we see what’s behind the scenes, so it’s going to be extremely exciting. said Landen Minto, Fashion Merchandising Junior.

The experience is exciting for them, a glimpse into a potential future. Howard hopes his students will gain connections that can benefit them beyond graduation.

“Everyone has hopes and aspirations to work in the fashion industry once they graduate and this will be a really important step for them to get this first-hand experience and develop relationships that can help them in the future,” Howard said. .
