Two event-packed fashion weeks are scheduled for September in Minnesota

From intimate gatherings to grand parades, September is shaping up to be packed with stylish events highlighting local artists, businesses and venues.

Two fashion weeks are on this month’s list. MN Fashion Week (FWMN) begins on Sunday. A few days later, on September 23, Black Fashion Week MN (BFWMN) begins.

FWMN Executive Director and Co-Founder Sarah Edwards said the events are about more than what to wear.

“At the end of the day, it’s about people and connections and stories,” he said. “And fashion turns out to be the final common thread that unites us all.”

Edwards added that the fall installment of the biannual event will include a strong educational component, with panels on sustainability, technology in fashion and more.

At MN Black Fashion Week, look for events that highlight local tastemakers and stylers, as well as other members of the creative community.

“For us, this round is about culture for culture. When we say culture, it’s really about working with the community,” said BFWMN founder Natalie Morrow. “It’s really about supporting and highlighting Black-owned businesses. We’re partnering and connecting with them and really spreading the love.”

Black Fashion Week MN events range from a mini-fashion show at a restaurant to a salon and runway shows. A finish at the new Four Seasons hotel will highlight African American-owned businesses and wedding apparel inspiration for brides and grooms, as well as their guests.

“We’re putting together a wedding cake that will be cut and will have champagne and a DJ,” Morrow said. “So it’s going to be a fashion show/fake wedding reception.”
