TikTok rape claim highlights viral app’s appeal as a target

TikTok, the short video sensation that is among the world’s most downloaded apps, is coming under increased scrutiny over its data security as it protects the personal information of more than a billion users.

On Monday, several cybersecurity analysts tweeted about the discovery of what was allegedly an insecure server breach that allowed access to TikTok storage, which they believe contained users’ personal data. Just days earlier, Microsoft Corp. said it had found a “high-severity vulnerability” in the TikTok Android app, “that would have allowed attackers to compromise user accounts with a single click.”
