This designer prepares to make his mark at 3 important fashion weeks

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – This native Hawaiian fashion designer is about to make history.

Kumu Micah Kamohoalii is preparing to embark on a European fashion tour to showcase his Hawaiian designs.

He will present his new collection first at London Fashion Week on September 17.

Then a week later, Kamohoalii’s designs will hit the runway at Milan Fashion Week. Not long after, she will wrap up her tour at Paris Fashion Week.

Excitement is in the air for the designer and his team of 30 Hawaiian models and musicians as they prepare to travel across Europe by train.

Their unique apparel, Dezigns by Kamohoalii, brings indigenous Hawaiians to life through traditional designs, bold colors, metaphorical imagery, and strong cultural symbolism.

On its European fashion tour, Kamohoalii said it will bring the essence of Hawaii to Europe through a three-part cultural showcase featuring Hawaiian runway models (including members of their immediate family), kapa bumps, chants and singer performances. and award-winning dancers. hers Halau Na Kipuupuu interpreting ancient and modern dances.

“I like to take a variety of models,” added Kamahoalii. “I like to take real, real, real Hawaiian people. And so I’ve had to teach my aunts to walk in heels, stilettos and, you know, boots.”

By participating in Europe Fashion Week, Kamohoalii hopes to provide information and education about authentic Hawaiian fashion, arts and culture.

In addition to his European tour, the fashion designer has just opened the first of two new stores on Oahu, one in Pearlridge Center and the other in Windward Mall.

He said that his biggest challenge next to fundraising will be footwear.
