SIGA and Yale will offer a course on ‘sport, fashion, governance and equity’ that will change the culture

June 24 – Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) has timed the announcement of a new partnership with Yale University to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of Title IX.

Title IX was US legislation that enshrined the principles of equality and inclusion to protect students and employees from sexual and gender-based harassment.

The collaboration between Yale and SIGA will consist of the delivery of a course entitled ‘Women Athletes: Fashion, Governance and Equity’.

This capstone course with the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs will begin in the fall of 2022 and is seen as a springboard for advancing research in this area.

Course material will cover real-world issues at the crossroads of sport and fashion, covering topics ranging from sustainability and fair labor practices to entrepreneurship and good governance.

Capstone Professor Dr. Mary Davis said, “For athletes, functional and distinctive clothing is crucial to performance and to establishing an ultimate image. On the fashion side, sports and leisure style are the dominant forces in the market. The economic impact on these fields is massive and the need for equity and inclusion at all levels is urgent.

“The Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs is therefore delighted to join forces with SIGA, the world’s leading Sports Integrity organization to deliver this cutting-edge course with the common goal of driving cultural change and shaping the next generation of industry leaders. ”

SIGA has been at the forefront of harnessing the power of women in sports and supporting and empowering female leadership at all levels within the sports industry through its SIGAMujeres Program.

Katie Simmonds, SIGA Global COO and CEO of #SIGAMujeres, said: “Sport and fashion are powerful worlds that have the ability to educate, empower and foster cultural change. Put together by SIGA in partnership with Yale, this innovative new capstone course on “Women Athletes: Fashion, Governance, and Equity” bridges both industries, providing students with a unique set of tools, unmatched experience, and the leadership skills needed to take the decision. difference in this increasingly competitive sector.”
