Player ratings: Manchester City lose Manchester Derby in dramatic late fashion

Manchester City lost at Old Trafford after initially taking the second-half lead through a rare Jack Grealish header.

After a dull first half with few chances for either side, City took the lead with Grealish making a fantastic impact off the bench.

Manchester United again went against the flow of the game when Bruno Fernandes slotted the ball past Ederson, but it was ruled offside due to the ball being played through Marcus Rashford, who was yards away. .

However, the referee gave away the goal to anger Manchester City but send Old Trafford to ecstasy.

Mark Rashford

Pep Guardiola’s men did not react well to the gas from the goal four minutes later Erik Ten Haag’s men took the lead after Alejandro Garnacho passed the ball into the small area for a touch from Rashford to continue their good form and get the winning goal . .

City’s defeat has given Arsenal a huge boost in the title race as they can now lead by eight points with a win against Tottenham on Sunday.

player ratings

Ederson: 6

Ederson

He got away with an absolute howl in the first half when he ran off his goal for no reason. He made a fine save, squelching Rashford’s shot in the opening 45 minutes to prevent United from taking the lead in the game. He couldn’t have done much for the two goals.

Kyle Walker: 5

He came close to a speculative effort just before halftime, but other than that his attacking threat was minimal and Garnacho gave him real trouble.

Manuel Akanji: 5

He was putting in a good performance when he blocked Rashford’s shot after he rounded Ederson and made a couple of key interceptions, but deflected for both goals.

Nathan Ake: 6

He left a bit more exposed as he wasn’t playing as a reverse winger, but rather as one of two central defenders, but it looked like he managed just fine right up to the goals, but City were all at sea.

Joao Cancelo:

Good intervention to prevent Rashford from tapping out early in the game, but he looked completely devoid of attacking confidence as he was losing single balls out of play.

Rodrigo: 5

Like Cancelo, he was also missing out on simple passes with Manchester City looking sluggish and uncharacteristically off pace in the first half. He, too, found himself caught up in a footrace with Rashford that nearly cost City. He gained control in the second half, but after United’s equalizer he was nowhere to be seen.

Bernardo Silva: 4

He had a deflected header, but other than that, he wasn’t in the game, which has been a constant theme for a couple of weeks now.

Kevin DeBruyne: 7

kevin debruyne

He picked up dangerous spaces in the first 45 minutes but couldn’t find the right pass, but after the interval he was running the show for Manchester’s blue side and getting the assist with an accurate cross to the back post. He was one of the only ones to probe United’s back line when City fell behind but could not find Erling Haaland in the box.

Riad Mahrez: 4

He wasn’t much of a threat, which was a surprise after how impressive he’s been in recent weeks, but Tyrell Malacia did a good job on him.

Erling Haaland: 3

He was once again barely involved and isolated in the middle. City didn’t play to his strengths as they weren’t trying to find him back. He’s nowhere to be seen in the warm-up game either, which is a big problem for Pep Guardiola.

Phil Foden: 3

Following up on a consistent theme recently of finding himself totally isolated. He too was caught offside a couple of times and it wasn’t a surprise to see him sent off as he wasn’t causing Aaron Wan-Bissaka any trouble.

Substitutions:

Jack Grealish (Phil Foden 57): 7

He made an immediate impact with the brilliant header to give the Premier League champions the lead and always looked like he was causing danger when on the ball. Needs to start next week.
