New designers from Etro, Ferragamo and Bally will debut at Milan Fashion Week

Updated on August 1

MILAN — September’s Milan Fashion Week, taking place from September 20-26, is set to be a jam-packed event, with 67 mostly physical shows, highly anticipated debuts and plenty of returning designer labels.

Among the creatives presenting their first collections for historic houses is Marco de Vincenzo, the newly appointed Creative Director of Etro, who will make his debut at the helm of the historic Italian brand. To that end, he chose a location on the outskirts of the city for the September 23 event, which takes place a few hours after Filippo Grazioli’s renewed vision for Missoni. This will mark Grazioli’s first runway show since he joined the brand as creative director in March. He was already responsible for the men’s spring and resort collections that were unveiled through presentations earlier this summer.

The following day, September 24, will see a couple of additional highly-anticipated debuts: Salvatore Ferragamo, who showed off via a presentation last season while preparing a creative changing of the guard, returns with a mixed program designed by the director newly installed creative. Maximilian Davis, while Bally, who had traditionally organized presentations, debuts on the catwalk with the first collection designed by Rhugi Villaseñor, the Manila-born designer behind the Rhude brand.

Moncler will cap off the day by celebrating its 70th anniversary with a catwalk event at 9pm CET.

Benetton will exhibit after hours on September 25 at its Milan flagship store on Corso Buenos Aires, the first collection designed by newly appointed Creative Director Andrea Incontri.

According to the provisional calendar issued on Friday by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, the week officially begins on September 20 with the Milano Moda Graduate event, the fashion organizing body’s awards for graduate collections.

Although a couple of slots are still being allocated for the show later that night, fashion people can expect the real action to begin on September 21, when the collective of designers and fashion professionals of color We Are Made in Italy is presenting digitally, followed by Antonio Marras, who returns to the official calendar with a physical show after a few seasons of presentations, showroom appointments and a catwalk event held in Russia last February.

It will be followed, among others, by Diesel and Fendi. Although the latter brand is heading to New York Fashion Week to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its successful Baguette bag, which, as reported in WWD, could involve a partnership with Marc Jacobs, its spring 2023 collection comes to Milan as usual. Diesel, for his part, opens his show to the public, as does Anteprima, who turns 30.

Vivetta and Stella Jean also return to the calendar on September 23 after a few years of absence.

As reported, Matty Bovan will be moving from London to Milan, supported by Dolce & Gabbana, with a physical show on September 25, while this season’s Valentino and Camera della Moda sponsored designers Galib Gassanoff and Luca Lin of Act #1, will be shown on September 22.

On the penultimate night, the Camera della Moda will hold the Sustainable Fashion Awards event at the La Scala theater awarding 12 awards. As reported, the evening will be hosted by actress Rossy de Palma.

The final day will feature digital-only submissions, including Mmusomaxwell, one of the few new names on the show, led by Johannesburg-based design duo Mmuso Potsane and Maxwell Boko.

The schedule of performances has not yet been released and the final version of the schedule will be released on September 7, Camera della Moda said.
