Decathlon launches rental service to make sport more affordable

Decathlon has launched a rental service for a range of its products to make sports more affordable for buyers.

The service, which includes stand-up paddle boards (SUPs), kayaks, and electric bikes, is charged per 24 hours, rather than per hour.

For example, the first 24 hours of a kayak is charged at £30, then the second day is charged at £15, and subsequent days are charged at £10 per day.

The service is currently available in London (Surrey Quays), Southampton, Poole and Glasgow (Braehead), but will be rolled out to more stores.

Commenting on the launch, Sharon Poulter, Decathlon Rental Leader, said: “This is a really exciting development in our work to become a more sustainable business, while also driving the accessibility of sports. Our mission is to make sports more accessible to many, and offering rental services is definitely the most environmentally friendly way to do that. All of our rental products are refurbished or ‘like new’, creating a truly circular economy.

“As part of the service, we will offer package deals so customers can rent everything they need for an adventure-filled weekend, including e-bike and SUP or kayak combos at a discounted price. I hope to grow this proposal, giving more and more people the opportunity to explore new sports.”
