N Vogue: Paris Fashion Week Review: The Unbelievable, Clever and Wicked | Culture

Controversial slogans, drizzled dresses, and over-the-top glitz and glam are just a couple of things viewers witnessed on the runways of Paris, France, from September 26 to October 4 for this year’s Paris Fashion Week. year.

This year’s fashion weeks have shown us that designers are going all out, and the more outrageous, the better. This can be said especially of the Paris Fashion Week. I’m obsessed with fashion weeks. I don’t leave my house for days as I pore over the shows on YouTube and read about all the fashion drama. Therefore, I had to review this Paris Fashion Week and break it down into the appropriate categories: the awesome, the witty, and the wicked.

The awesome

The Valentino show, though a little late, brought boxy silhouettes, extremely dazzling fabrics, and sheer garments to the runway. The bead work was beautiful and not too unpleasant. Some dresses clung precariously to the models’ breasts in a way that made the garments sensual but also elegant. The show was in a simple, exposed brick venue with no interior decoration, so the clothes were the main attraction.

Valentino also told us that his favorite letter is, in fact, “V,” as there were dresses and one-pieces with the full “V” monogram. The “V” emblem was even painted on the faces of some models.

Although Valentino’s clothes were exquisite, the front-row guests did not seem pleased. Guests had to sit shoulder to shoulder in the sweaty venue as they waited for the show to start an hour late.

Unlike Valentino’s very prominent “V” theme, Loewe seemed undecided on what theme he wanted his collection to be.

Loewe’s collection began with dresses that resembled anthurium sprouting from the models’ chests. The floral theme was slowly transferred to the feet of the models with leaf-like shoes and heels completely adorned with flower petals. The models then wore dresses in doll-like silhouettes under jackets that fell to exactly the same length.

As the show drew to a close, models strutted down the runway in pixelated shirts and pants that looked like non-expendable tokens, also known as NFTs, or Minecraft characters. Some models also sported dresses that resembled mountain ranges with jagged necklines.

Personally, although anthuriums are my favorite flower, I don’t think I’ll ever wear Loewe’s floral dresses. The anthurium’s spadix is interesting to look at, but looks rather unpleasant to wear, and the garment would make walking through a crowd very inconvenient. The place was at least more comfortable for the guests in the front row, and they could see a large fake anthurium sprouting from the center of the catwalk.

the ingenious

Coperni takes the cake for the most ingenious show. For the finale of the show, Bella Hadid took to a stage in the middle of the runway, wearing nothing but a thong. Three artists stood to one side of her and painted her with what appeared to be white paint. The painting materialized into a dress, and then a woman ripped the dress from her and removed the sleeves from Hadid’s shoulders to create an off-the-shoulder look. Hadid walked the rest of the runway in the white gown as audience members gave her a standing ovation.

The spray paint the artists used was actually Fabrican, which is a liquid fiber made from polymers. The fabric feels like suede and can be handled similar to woven fabrics. While spray painting a dress at a show is not a new idea, the final dress was so attractive that it opens up the possibilities for creating other garments with spray paint.

evil

On Monday, October 3, Ye, formally called Kanye West, surprised the fashion crowd with a Yeezy show. The day before his surprise show, Ye walked a muddy runway for Balenciaga and hinted to audience members that he would be showing his new Yeezy collection at Paris Fashion Week the next day.

The show was held in a simple concrete venue and the collection consisted of crop top puffer coats and technical two-piece ensembles. His simple show was shown to the background noise of horns and her daughter, North West, rapping.

Ye is known for his controversial stunts, so it’s no surprise that while the show wasn’t chaotic, on the other hand, it garnered a lot of attention. Yes, a model on the runway and Candace Owens wore a T-shirt with “white lives matter” emblazoned on the back. Many people were angered by the phrase, which is a play on the Black Lives Matter movement providing support to the black community for the injustices they experience. Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, Vogue’s Global Fashion Contributing Editor, was the first to deliver the message. Ye lashed out at her with a series of Instagram posts that undermined her position in the fashion industry.

This caused angry people on social media to call out Ye for his unfair antics. Vogue also released a statement saying they stand by and support Johnson for her decision to speak out against Ye’s designs. Since then, Ye has posted several images of text messages captured in which people support her shirt design. It makes you wonder who is in charge of Ye’s social media.

All in all, a fashion week wouldn’t be complete without some drama, and Paris Fashion Week did not disappoint.
