Maye Musk becomes the longest running Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model

Her billionaire son may have dominated the headlines recently, but 74-year-old Maye Musk is now in the spotlight after becoming the oldest model to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated swimsuits. ).

The model and dietician is one of four SI Swimsuit 2022 cover stars, along with reality star Kim Kardashian, singer Ciara, and musician and fashion entrepreneur Yumi Nu. Musk is the mother of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, restaurateur Kimbal Musk, and filmmaker Tosca Musk.

“If I thought I could be a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, people would have locked me up like crazy,” Musk said with a laugh in a video released by the magazine. “And now, here I am.”

“I am very excited that people know that women in their 70s are beautiful,” she added.

MJ Day, editor-in-chief of SI Swimsuit, defended the latest women chosen to appear on the cover.

“The journey we’ve been on, to break out of the mold the world put us in, may sound familiar. It’s certainly familiar to the women we’ve chosen to be our cover models: Maye, Ciara, Yumi, Kim ”, Day said in a press release on Monday.

“At 74, Maye continues to work every day to inspire those around her.”

Musk was photographed by Yu Tsai in Belize wearing a variety of swimsuits, including a Bahia Maria one-piece with 3D floral details, a Maygel Coronel suit with two-tone ruffles, a one-shoulder cutout silhouette with gold buttons from OYE and a Zimmermann two-piece.

For the theme, Tosca Musk wrote about her “unstoppable” mother.

“In her years on this planet, she’s earned two master’s degrees in nutritional sciences, won awards in the field of dietetics, been in countless fashion shows and editorials, and even appeared in a Beyoncé video,” she wrote.

“She is an unstoppable force, and she is the most fearless woman I have ever met.”
