Kim Kardashian addressed backlash from North West Paris Fashion Week

More than ever, it was a true family affair in this week’s episode of The Kardashians.

In the season 2 finale on Wednesday, we saw Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner and 9-year-old North West take Paris by storm as the trio hit the capital for couture fashion week.

You may remember that in July, this particular trip spawned a number of viral talking points centering primarily on North’s reaction to the media frenzy following her family.

Being the daughter of two of the most famous people on the planet, North is certainly no stranger to paparazzi, though she seemed more open than ever about being constantly hounded by photographers.

On one occasion during the trip to Paris, North made headlines after directly confronting a swarm of photographers, asking them, “Why do you have to wait for us all the time?” as they lounged outside their hotel anticipating Kim’s departure.

Her frustration seemed to grow as the trip progressed, resulting in another viral moment later in the week, this time while standing front and center at a Jean Paul Gaultier fashion show.

Sitting next to her mother, Kris, and Anna Wintour, North took matters into her own hands once again by creating an impromptu “stop” sign to stop photographers from taking pictures.

Video of North’s handwritten sign ended up circulating online, and Kim even shared the video herself, gleefully explaining that her daughter apparently “had it with people taking pictures of her.”

“Anyone who knows North knows how much fun this video finds! I guess North was sick of people taking pictures of her so she wrote on her invite STOP her and held it up and wanted them to just focus on the show,” Kim wrote.

And while Kim was certainly seeing the lighter side of the incident, fans on Twitter couldn’t help but raise questions about North’s obvious discomfort.

“If your daughter doesn’t want her picture taken, don’t take her to sit in the front rows of a fashion show,” someone tweeted at the time.

@KimKardashian If your daughter doesn’t want her picture taken, don’t take her to sit in the front rows of a fashion show. This is also how your whole family earns money, videos and images. She may want to tell him that now.

On Reddit, others even accused Kim of unfairly forcing North into the public eye and pointed to the fact that Kylie Jenner has been outspoken about the long-term consequences of being in the spotlight at such a young age.

“The fact that [Kim] not only does he not protect her from the paparazzi/public eyes… but he actively pushes her into the spotlight… it’s so daunting,” someone wrote. “I don’t know how they can see how damaging it was for Kylie to be famous before she was old enough to decide for herself and then think, uh, okay…I’ll choose that same life for my son.”

And now, with the trip to Paris unfolding in the kardashians season finale, Kim addressed the viral signal for the second time, explaining that she was “dying” at the time.

“They put invitations on each seat and she took the pen out of Cici’s bag and wrote ‘stop’ really big on the invitation, and she just showed it to the people in front of her,” Kim said in her confessional. “I was just like, ‘Don’t take my picture,’ and I was dying.”

And while Kim didn’t directly acknowledge the backlash, she did explain why she often chooses to bring her children to such public events.

But before we get into it, it’s worth noting that it’s not just West’s oldest kid who recently got the chance to tag along for some of Kim’s big appearances.

In June, Saint, 6, and Psalm, 3, accompanied Kim on a work trip to New York, where they attended a live recording of the tonight show. Sitting in the audience, the boys even appeared on the broadcast after Kim had to tell them to stop making noise during her interview.

Several weeks later, Kim was back in town for another girls’ trip, this time with North and her 4-year-old sister, Chicago. The trio did some sightseeing and visited the American Dream mall, where North even told a crowd of fans to shut up.

However, Kim explains early on in this week’s episode that the reason for putting her kids in these high-profile situations is so they can gain a deeper understanding of their job and the importance of finding a career they love.

“I really wanted to bring North on this journey because I really enjoy what I do and I want my kids to grow up really loving what they do and finding their passion and figuring out how to build a business out of it,” she explains. in his confessional.

Later, Kim doubles down on this once more, emphasizing how important it is to her that North gets to see the work that goes on behind the scenes.

“It also shows my daughter the work I’m doing,” she says. “There’s a whole business behind it, so I like to show him that it’s still fun for me. Work can be fun.”

And speaking of fun, it seemed that despite the paparazzi frustrations, North was having an amazing time in Paris and actually seemed to be delighted with the attention for the most part.

In one scene, as Kim prepares to walk the Balenciaga runway, North bounds into the dressing room, beaming with joy after seeing the throngs of people outside the venue.

“Guess what. There’s a whole crowd for me and everyone was yelling at me!” she says to her mom, who questions what they were saying, prompting North to throw off an enthusiastic impression that fans were calling her name.

Seeing North’s excitement, Kris even suggests that the two visit the fans. In her confessional, Kim explains that her mother and her daughter share the same “silly spirit,” which means they aren’t afraid when it comes to all the attention.

Of course, as a mom, Kim says it makes her “so happy” to see North feeling confident, particularly at the Jean Paul Gaultier show, where the two were stunned in matching outfits.

“I love when North feels like herself. The glasses, the hat. I am so happy that she likes this experience. That makes me happy. What a lucky girl, honestly,” she says.
