Kanye West is making a statement.
The rapper hosted a surprise Yeezy show on Monday in Paris, showing off his Season 9 collection to much fanfare.
Before the models appeared, West made a speech while wearing a “White Lives Matter” T-shirt emblazoned with the Pope’s face on the front and the same dazzling flip-flops she wore last week.
He referenced his ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s robbery in Paris in 2016, his former manager Scooter Braun, the difficulties he faced entering the fashion industry, his recent falling out with Gap and much more.
“I am Ye, and everyone here knows that I am the leader,” he said at one point, referring to his new legal name. “You can’t handle me.”
Before the show, Ye poked fun at some of the famous models expected to appear: Kardashian, 41, his ex-girlfriend Irina Shayk and his current love Candice Swanepoel, as well as other big names like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Angelina Jolie, Lauryn Hill, Naomi Campbell, Emily Ratajkowski, Gisele Bundchen, Bella Hadid, and Amelia Gray Hamlin.
However, it appears that only Shayk, Campbell and Hamlin showed up, with the Russian model looking on from the side as the other two walked the runway.
Some of the models in the show also wore the same t-shirt emblazoned with “White Lives Matter” on the back as fans on social media reacted.
“Sending a ‘WHITE LIVES MATTER’ t-shirt down a runway in Paris is literal madness and no amount of gospel is getting that man through heaven’s gate, I’m so sorry,” one person tweeted. Another wrote: “Note Kanye was calling Kim and Kris kkk 2 weeks ago and now he’s wearing a white Lives Matter t-shirt.”
Others recalled his infamous trip to the White House wearing a “MAGA” hat. West also previously caused controversy by wearing a Confederate flag jacket in 2013.
“There are only people. From the same planet. And sometimes in high school, we just don’t seem to fit in. And in a situation like this, we have an opportunity to come together to express who we are,” West told Vogue about her vision of the catwalk before the show.
“It’s leaning into the way I see this future world… this alternate world. But in high school. It focuses on the curriculum because my parents are educators.”

Yeezy’s past fashion shows have been marred by disasters, previously having guests waiting for hours in the sun, models passing out and more. However, this is the first time West has worn her designs to Paris Fashion Week.
