If sex sells, why are pigtails so lucrative?
It’s a hairstyle often sported by girls, but one grown woman said her waitressing tips are better when she wears them.
Bella Woodard said she learned about the “pigtail trick” to augment her tips at work from another TikTok user.
“I saw the Tiktok about this girl, she’s a waitress and I’m a waitress, how she gets more tips when her hair is in pigtails for some weird and crazy reason,” she explained in a 59-second clip.
The 21-year-old then proceeds to put her blonde hair up in pigtails, seemingly dubious of the oddly specific advice.
“Okay, I literally look crazy right now, so I’m going to braid these pieces, and if this works, I’m just going to say it’s so weird and gross, but I’m up for more advice, so it doesn’t matter,” Woodard said in the video, which has been viewed 3.9 million times so far.

The footage then cuts to the end of his shift, when a shocked Woodard confirms that the “pigtail trick” actually works.
“They weren’t lying,” the waitress said. “I got a $135 tip from a guy tonight. Wear pigtails to work, I’m going to be doing this every day.”
The reveal was met with both support and speculation from those wondering why this particular hairstyle was so successful.
“It works every time, I used to call them my tiptails,” one user joked.
“It’s the Brittany Spears schoolgirl thing,” said another.
A witness waitress added that Woodard’s platinum hair color could also have an impact on tips.
“I think the blonde helps too,” they wrote. “When she was a blonde she received better tips than when she was a brunette.”
Others evidently worried that the childish hairstyle was enough to boost profits.
“Great, I will never put my daughters hair in pigtails again,” wrote one concerned mother.
“Not men because they are attracted to young girls, BYE,” said another.
Since then, Woodard has started experimenting with different hairstyles to see which gives her the most advice.
Pigtails of various shapes have been the most popular so far.
