Harry Styles and Gucci create the Ha Ha Ha collection – WWD

MILAN — “It was easier for him to design with me than for me to sing with him,” Alessandro Michele joked on Monday, speaking of Harry Styles and presenting the Gucci Ha Ha Ha collection, the fruit of his friendship with the British singer and actor.

The name of the capsule not only represents the combination of the initials of the names of Michele and Styles, but also the onomatopoeic sound of the emoji of the smiley face that was used for years to end their messages.

Gucci’s creative director met Styles, a member of former boy band One Direction, when he released his first solo album in 2017. The artist has worn Gucci on the red carpet and on tour for years and was chosen by the house of fashion to headline the ad campaign for his Autumn 2018 tailoring collection, photographed by Glen Luchford in a North London fish and chip shop posing with animals, including chickens and dogs. Styles likes to wear bright colors like pink, sequins, and heels, and some of her most notable looks include her Gucci outfit at the 2019 Met Gala, which featured a sheer, black lace top with black dress pants. , the three different boas she wore to the 2021 Grammys, and her Vogue cover for the December 2020 issue in which she wore a Gucci dress.

“He has an incredible fashion sense, he’s obsessed with clothes,” Michele marvels. “He keeps sketches and a file, he could easily be a stylist or designer and he is very free, a representative of this new generation that is interested in so many things. I have been observing his ability to combine garments in an unusual way compared to the required standards of taste and common sense and the homogenization of appearance.”

Each look in the capsule fuses the distinctive style of both men, with a ’70s vibe that goes well with the rest of the clothing and accessories on sale at the “Cavalli e Nastri” vintage store where Gucci made the presentation, a reflection of Michele and Styles’ shared passion for vintage clothing.

“Harry has a very clear and precise point of view, as well as great instincts and chooses his clothes very carefully. The idea for this capsule is banal in its simplicity and it’s an act of love, but it has value, it’s sophisticated and we paid a lot of attention to fabrics and clothing details,” said Michele. “It was a joyful and easy activity with this kind of relationship. But the result is serious.

Flared trousers, duffle coats with a British air in masculine fabrics, cute teddy bear brooches, colorful shirts with children’s cherry or sheep motifs, a velvet double-breasted tuxedo jacket and bright red heart fur intarsia ankle boots were some of the pieces. sleepless. — along with exclusive Gavroche caps from Styles. “It’s the look of a gentleman becoming a rock star,” Michele offered.

The one-of-a-kind collection will be in stores in October, and Michele believes it will appeal not only to Styles fans but “anyone with a passion for clothing.”

The event was part of Milan Men’s Fashion Week and Michele hinted at the possibility of returning to the official calendar soon with a men’s fashion show.
