During the month of November GEO with style hits the runway for Denver Fashion Week, showcasing the Georgian designer’s incredible collection, MG Megi Gabunia. GEO In Style is a company that works with very talented Georgian designers.
Entrepreneurs and owners of the company GEO In Style — boy walton Y Nia Neilson— are helping to spread awareness of European fashion. The company started in the midst of COVID during 2020 and has continued to grow ever since.
The two businesswomen met about 10 years ago in Colorado Springs. Walton and Neilson connected during their search for the Georgian community.
The idea for GEO In Style began with Walton and Neilson wanting to use their country’s designs. “We always wanted to buy and wear something from our own country and from our own designers to support local artists,” Neilson said.
The two were working with the goal of spreading Georgian culture in Colorado fashion.. “Now the Georgian community has definitely grown in Colorado, but back then I would say there were at least only a handful, at least from what we knew,” Neilson says.
Their name, “Stylish GEO,” comes from the exact comments they received from their friends, “you’re so Fashionsays Nelson.
As mentioned above, Walton and Neilson worked with the designer MG Megi Gabunia during Denver Fashion Week where they exhibited their collection.
Looking at this collection says a lot on its own. With each individual piece having its own unique touch.
Throughout its collection, the dark color palette is noticeable, creating a very chic look. On top of that, Megi is known for her talent for working with leather which also shows throughout the collection.
You may also notice that her collection is accompanied by unique accessories, which makes her collection stand out from other brands.
Walton and Neilson also work closely with other designers; Boo Jewelry, handmade ireneY Nootsa.
Walton and Neilson saw something was missing in the Colorado fashion industry and wanted to bring fashion from their culture to the Denver fashion scene. “A lot of our friends started asking where we got these items,” Neilson said. This happened every time the designers of their culture in the United States wore.
So they had the idea, “Why don’t we start helping Georgia designers expand their demographic?” Neilson said. The two of them have started this empire that spreads the fashion of their culture to a different country.
They are building a path for Georgian designers to broaden their demographic and give local Coloradans a new side of fashion.
The two began by finding mutual connections with established Georgian designers. The two were very careful in explaining this business idea to the future designers they planned to work with. They assured the designers that they would work “strictly with Georgian designers who manufacture in Georgia,” Neilson said.
This would encourage designers to expand their horizons and share their fashion culture with the United States, while eliminating any outsourcing from other countries.
The two show their passion and love for their culture through this company that is “dedicated to the Republic of Georgia,” Neilson said.
They look for designers who have unique designs that are nothing like everyday clothes. The designs “have to be unique,” Walton explained.
The designers they work with create truly handmade items, Neilson explains. That said, these pieces are all very different from one another, “some come with blemishes,” Neilson said.
One of their long-term goals is to reach a broader audience, which means more sizes and more custom pieces. Ultimately, the two of them would like to start making and shipping custom items from Georgia.
Neilson and Walton rave about all the designers they work with. One, in particular, that the two talked about was MG Megi Gabunia. “She used to work with shoe leather, she’s an expert in leather making,” Walton said. “All of her clothing has a high quality leather element to it, something to describe this item comes from Georgia,” Neilson said.
“Megi makes clothes that are comfortable for everyday wear, but nice enough to be on the go,” Walton said.
“Her inspirations come from her own experience.” Megi has also partnered with the film industry in Georgia and is creating items for the cast of a movie set in the renaissance era, which also includes lots of leather goods.
Megi creates “very powerful statements almost like a warrior,” Neilson said. Walton and Neilson also mentioned that Megi creates a lot of unisex items, along with another designer, Boo Jewellery.
Boo Jewelery creates beautiful statement pieces. His signature pieces are a beautiful single-sided headset. They also have these bracelets that are attached to a ring. She was a designer who created non-standard jewelry, Neilson explained.
Boo Jewelery has had her items featured on TV shows in Spain, “her jewelry is making a statement on its own, the whole outfit is your earring,” Neilson said.
The two explain that fashion is an everyday lifestyle in their culture. “We love fashion, but we are no different from almost 90% of European women,” Neilson said. “Here in the United States it is called that you are a fashionist but we just call it a lifestyle,” Neilson said.
Walton explains that everyone in Europe is very conscious about how they look and what they wear. “In college, someone could literally roll out of bed without even washing their face, this is unacceptable for our culture,” Neilson explains.
Walton and Neilson noticed a gap in the Denver fashion industry and decided to bring something new to the scene. “We realized the lack of unique fashion in the United States and wanted to bring something fresh and new”
As a result of their venture, they are giving back to their community. They are here to help your business continually grow and present Georgia in the most amazing way possible.
“Our business and passion is to make Georgia known, not designers of clothing or accessories,” Neilson said. This shows her passion and love for her culture.
