Ganni presents an exclusive collaboration with Barbour at Copenhagen Fashion Week

The Ganni show is always one of the highlights of Copenhagen Fashion Week, and this season was no different. Inspired by creative director Ditte Reffstrup’s love of cycling through the Danish capital during the summer, the SS23 collection was aptly dubbed ‘Joyride’ and featured a harbor front runway, models in cheerful bright colours, more sustainable fabrics than never and even some bikes. stunts

But beyond showcasing the Scandinavian wardrobe of summer dreams, yesterday’s SS23 show had even more surprises in store, chief among them the announcement of the brand’s collaboration with Barbour. The latest in a long series of exciting collaborations with Ganni, Reffstrup and his team have worked closely with the British brand for over a year on two collections, which will be available to buy from October.

ELLE UK spoke exclusively to Reffstrup ahead of the show to find out all the details. “Barbour is one of those iconic brands that I’ve always dreamed of collaborating with,” he says. ‘My husband and I have been wearing Barbour jackets for years, they are something you can always grab and match with any outfit. But for me, the most exciting part was collaborating with a brand that is so aesthetically different from mine. We had a lot of fun trying to meet in the middle.

And they met in the medium they did, with Barbour providing her iconic heritage status and vast archive of classic styles, and Ganni her ‘cool girl’, Scandinavian aesthetic and sustainable ethos. The result is an exclusive capsule of 50 reimagined Barbour jackets, each completely unique.

“From the beginning we wanted to do something responsible, so we came up with the idea of recycling and reworking old Barbour styles,” says Reffstrup. Each jacket is unique and incorporates Ganni’s fun and modern design elements. We cut some jackets to make them cropped, others have denim patches and bright pink collars, and there are also embroidered flowers and butterflies.’

It’s the perfect blend of old and new, iconic and innovative, city and country – the kind of pieces anyone from #GanniGirls Emma Chamberlain and Mia Regan to Dua Lipa, or even the fan of Barbour for a long time, the Queen.

“A big reference for us was the iconic image of Princess Diana in her Barbour with a hoodie and jeans,” says Reffstrup. It’s exactly how we would wear it. I love when people mix and match in unexpected ways. I imagine this collection will be paired with anything from a feminine dress to a pair of jeans and everything in between and will always be worn with confidence.”
