It is the latest injury blow to befall the under-pressure manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who is now short of eight first-team players, his attack already diminished by the continued absences of Kemar Roofe, Tom Lawrence and Ianis Hagi.

Sakala was out of favor earlier in the season but has featured more regularly in recent weeks, starting his third successive game at McDiarmid Park on Sunday as Rangers crashed out to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of St Johnstone, earlier to limp out late. In the second half.

However, the Zambian international will sit out games against Hearts at Ibrox on Wednesday and St Mirren in Paisley on Saturday after Van Bronckhorst revealed the striker had suffered a minor injury.

The Rangers boss said: ‘Fashion had a scan yesterday [Monday]. He has a minor muscle injury and will be out for a week which will rule him out for the last 2 games but he will be back for sure after the World Cup.”

Van Bronckhorst was also questioned about the situation with youngster Alex Lowry, who was dropped from the team in Perth on Sunday after making one final substitute appearance against Ajax in the midweek Champions League loss.

The 19-year-old recently returned from a two-month layoff through injury.

“Alex is not on the team, he is fit to play but he is not on the team,” Van Bronckhorst explained.
