The 37th season of the “culmination of DC fashion week” included the Spring/Summer 2023 collections of Be the first, shop on the catwalk, troy anthony, Obiome Fashion, Jah Kente International Fashion, Eryn Boggs, sky house, Fruwah Chapman Y international corjor. Ean Williams, director and founder of DC Fashion Week, was the designer of the final collection presented, international corjor. Corjor is a combination of the first and last name of his son, Cory Jordan.

Her collection, inspired by the district’s cherry blossoms, exploded with a plethora of pink pieces. Williams added bright flowers to evening wear pieces to put a twist on classic wedding dresses. She wanted to capture “the same feeling of beauty” that a bride feels on her wedding day.

Fruwah Chapman designed a collection that literally brought the audience home. After a 3-year hiatus to pursue real estate, Chapman returned to the world of fashion with a collection inspired by a house in DC.

“I wanted to introduce the idea of ​​the designer and the uniqueness of the house, as well as inspire anyone in photography, art or anything,” said Chapman.

chapman collection featured red and black pieces with structured shoulders, like the frame of a house, and featured bags and accessories, similar to the furniture in a house. Chapman plans to pursue real estate and fashion for the rest of her life.

Model Zoe Lenn walked the runway in a blue print dress with yellow accents trailing behind her. Designed by Jah Kente International FashionLenn hoped to “experience his creative mind.”

“I’m looking to inspire younger black girls to be themselves on the runway,” Lenn said.

sky house She showed off fun costume pieces: from a cut-out leather bodysuit to a sailor suit that included a matching hat. The designer of the collection goes by the name of Sky.

“I loved every step of the way,” Sky said of designing her collection, “it was a labor of love.”

The DC Fashion Week showcase featured 13 different vendors, many of them DC-made brands, according to Williams. Shadows in the Club it was a brand that started by selling sunglasses without the owner’s face in local DC clubs. Jennifer J, with a mini mobile screen that spelled out her brand name, then expanded her inventory and grew into a business.

“This is the nation’s capital. So we have to set the example that fashion is for everyone,” Williams said.
