Beauty Accelerate and C&T Allēs Energize Beauty Innovation

Connections between influencers, cosmetics R&D innovators, contract manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, packagers, marketers, brand managers and others were positively electric in Beauty Accelerate 2022held September 28-29, 2022. Attendees connected in person for the first time since the last event of 2019, generating insights from the industry’s top newsmakers.

Day One: Technical Summary

On day one, the “Tech Briefing” focused on the science, with talks ranging from technology to accelerate innovation in beauty, waterless formulation, regulatory challenges and the opportunities they present, certifiable sustainability, hair, the formulation for the immunity of the skin, the skinning of hair, neuromarketing and more.

For example, regarding the latter, John Jiménez, from Belcorp, spoke about the influence of emotions on the perception of age. He showed a series of images of a woman making different facial expressions, revealing that the happiest expressions were classified as younger by the panelists.

Also, according to Jiménez, new work is revealing how fragrance can affect autism. “One study found that aromatherapy (with lavender) improved some communication skills of children with autism; they were calm and collected,” she said. Fragrance was also found to decrease hyperactivity, anxiety, and attention deficit. This area was introduced as part of the general “sensory friendly” movement, which includes people with disabilities.

A full house of attendees actively participated in the Q&A sessions, boutique exhibit, and networking breaks, taking away actionable ideas for practical application. Winners for the highest rated overall Active Ingredients, Core Ingredients, Test Methods & Tools, Digital Technology/Applications, and Formulas in Independent, Prestige, and Mass Markets were highlighted, punctuated by applause and cheers from the audience. In addition, merits were awarded to innovations with the highest rating on a given parameter within a category.

Day Two: Brand Innovation

The second day, “Brand Innovation” sessions, starring influencers and pioneers in the beauty industry, who shared tips, tricks and lessons learned along their path to success. Attendees lined up for the opportunity to interact with these renowned innovators who are revolutionizing the industry.

For example, Olivia Stelmaszczyk, a research analyst at Euromonitor, gave a presentation on the Gen Z consumer. According to Stelmaszczyk, Gen Z links beauty with intrinsic values, holistic health, and emotional well-being. “Gen Z prefers minimalist daily beauty routines, but occasionally wears expressive makeup…As digital natives, their consumer journey is through smartphones…and Gen Z has a more relaxed perception of norms traditional gender lines,” she said.

Throughout the two days, an intimate boutique-style exhibition effervescent with solutions for future innovations and planted seeds for ideas to come. Beauty Accelerate 2022 It closed with an evening cocktail reception that brought together old and new friends with an exciting outlook for the future and beauty at its best.
