Waiter Earns $200 in Tips Wearing an All Black Jumpsuit

One TikTok user claims that waitresses can earn more tips by wearing just one simple piece of clothing: an all-black jumpsuit.

In a recent video, TikTok user @bonaocean shows viewers how she earns hundreds of dollars in tips just by wearing the outfit to work, which she said she bought from online clothing store Shein.

“So for all the girls who work in a restaurant and only have to wear black, I have the best for you,” said @bonaocean. “Go buy these overalls.”

The jumpsuit appeared to be made of a spandex-like material. In her video, which has been viewed over a million times, @bonaocean shows a receipt with a previous tip total of just $15 where she was tipped $200 and another where she was tipped $230.

Research has shown that male customers in restaurants will tip more depending on what the waitress is wearing. For example, one study showed that waitresses wearing the color red received more tips from male customers compared to waitresses wearing different colored blouses.

There’s also a trend on TikTok via the hashtag #pigtailtheory where waitresses discuss how wearing their hair in pigtails gets them more tips. A commenter mocked the theory in @bonaocean’s video.

“What if you wear the jumpsuit with your hair in pigtails?” said the commentator. “Do men burn themselves?”

Other viewers said it’s unlikely they’d be allowed to wear the one-piece at work.

“We are not allowed to wear leggings, I don’t think this will work,” said one commenter.

Some also pointed out that it probably depends on the type of restaurant a person works at whether they would be able to wear the outfit.

“People who have worked at fine dining [versus] people who work in sports bars arguing in the comments,” another user wrote.
