“Especially watching that video of the little boy being attacked by the coyote, I mean, they’re starving. Even for small children,” said Tina Rek, a Winter Park resident.

People on Westchester Avenue in Winter Park said coyotes are familiar guests there. Last year, Rek said that a coyote killed his cat named Baby.

“It was horrible. I never imagined this would happen to us,” Rek said.

Now Rek said that a coyote has been lurking near his house every night for the last month. Surveillance video shows him sniffing around his door. With three dogs and a few cats, she is concerned for his safety.

“I’m scared, you know, scared to even go out in my backyard with the dog. I have a flashlight and a stick,” Rek said.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, if you see a coyote while walking your dog or in your yard, you should make a loud noise to scare it off. You can also use motion activated sprinklers or a loud alarm sound.
