Viral TikTok Shows White Host In Chinese Attire Interviewing Strangers To See If They’re Offended

A viral TikTok video from PragerU shows its non-Chinese host interviewing strangers to find out the answer to “Who will be offended?” in reaction to him wearing traditional Chinese clothing.

PragerU, an American advocacy group that promotes conservative views through its online videos, uploaded the video on the topic of cultural appropriation on Wednesday showing Chinese people reacting differently compared to non-Asians.

In the first part of the videothe white host walks around asking non-Asians what they think of his Tang suit.

“You’re a fucking joke!” says a man.

“She seems pretty insensitive to me,” another man replies. “It’s from another cultural tradition that really isn’t something you should wear as a costume.”

In the last part of the video, set to Chinese instrumental music, the host goes to Chinatown and interviews Chinese people to check their answers with those of the non-Chinese people they asked.

“I really like your outfit. It looks great!” says a Chinese woman.

“Nice!” says an old Asian man about his outfit.

The man also asks a woman if an individual has to be Chinese to wear traditional clothing.

“You do not have to do it. Anyone can use it,” she replies.

Since then, the video has garnered over 4 million views and over 635,000 likes, with many viewers agreeing with PragerU’s sentiment.

“I swear, young people today get upset about things they have no idea about,” one user commented.

“Sad that this is the reality of every college campus in the United States,” another viewer wrote.

The TikTok account has previously gone viral for something similar. interview videowhich garnered more than 7 million views and shows the difference in reactions between Mexican and non-Mexican students to the same man wearing traditional Mexican clothing.

“It only offends people who are looking to be offended,” reads a popular comment on the video.

PragerU was founded in 2009 by conservative radio host Dennis Prager and screenwriter and author Allen Estrin to champion conservative views. Although PragerU is short for Prager University, it is not an academic institution.
