For Williams, being a role model is first and foremost about how you see yourself. “You can’t really be a role model for someone else if you’re not happy with how you feel about the way you’re living your own life,” says Venus. “I just wanted to play tennis and then there was this whole role model thing, but luckily my parents were good parents and gave us values.”
