Tips and Tricks – Thymesia Wiki Guide

Thymesia is brutally tough, incredibly fast, and will leave you crying in a corner if you’re not careful, or you can use our Thymesia tutorial. To get past him and turn him into a truly lethal plague doctor, you’ll need a few Thymesia tips and tricks to get by. Fortunately for you, we’ve gone ahead and struggled to provide you with some life-saving advice.

Before we even get into the proper Thymesia tips and tricks, we’ll give you one for free – pay attention during the tutorial. There are a lot of little mechanics to learn (like how to parry), and while you can absolutely find your own playstyle once you know Covus’s abilities, you’ll need to get a basic understanding first.

Each of these Thymesia tips and tricks is aimed at making you a better player. While they’re primarily meant to help you get to grips with the game faster, each of these will repeat itself throughout your journey, so be sure to memorize them if you want to make things a little easier.

White Health and Blue Health

Thymesia uses a unique health system where you have to deplete two separate health bars before you can defeat them. First is the white health bar which is depleted by weapon damage (saber attacks, most plague weapons) as well as deflections. Dealing damage with weapons accumulates wounds on the enemy, represented by the blue health bar.

Blue health/wounds are depleted by claw damage (claw attacks, some plague weapons). An enemy cannot be Executed until their blue health is completely gone, and if you don’t deal Claw Damage fast enough, the enemy’s Wounds will begin to heal, restoring their white health and forcing you to start the process over.

Skill Shard Farming

Skill Shards are a material used to unlock and upgrade your plague weapons. They are dropped by higher level enemies, most of which do not respawn when resting on a beacon. To farm a certain Shard, identify which level has the quickest access to the enemy you’re looking for, then charge into the level, kill the enemy, then head back to the Beacon and exit to start the process all over again. In my experience, it seems that looting enemies (aka using the fully charged claw attack) results in better shard drop rates.

Though talent points max out at level 25, you can continue to level up Corvus much further for 10,400 memory per level. If you’re having trouble and need to store some memory, consider the following two levels:

Sea of Trees 3 (Fool God Boss Level): This level contains a “boss battle” against the Mad God, but it’s more like an obstacle course that results in a couple thousand experiences. You have to fight your way through a bunch of enemies and poison sacks while dodging the boss attacks, but if you’re just looking to get the memory reward, you can actually go through everything to get to the end in just under 2 minutes. You can even use the Miasma Plague Weapon (dropped by Odur) to speed up your running animation and get through the level even faster. This gives you around 4000 experience and requires no battles!

Sea of Trees 5 (mutated Odur boss level): Alternatively, if you’re strong enough to take him down reliably, Mutated Odur is a fairly easy boss with only one health bar and no pre-fight level. You can burn it down pretty easily with the fully upgraded Javelin Bow and Sword Plague Weapon Combo, allowing you to gain a little over 6000 memory in 1-2 minutes. Also, even if you die, you just spawn right outside the boss room. Happy hunting friends!

Check blocked areas

Thymesia, as is the case with so many Soulslikes, loves a good jump scare. Throughout your journey you will come across enemies slumped around corners, prone, sitting on the ground, and hiding around bends. While you won’t be able to spot them all with this little trick, it’s worth using the lock button often when you’re facing a new area. Much of the game is intentionally hard to watch, and lockdown will go through everything to make sure you have a little more information.

Knock down barriers, buckets, barrels and boxes

There is a lot of wood in Thymesia, and both can and should hit or dodge every wooden thing they see. Much of the landscape can be partitioned, and many wooden barriers and boxes hide things for you to find. Sometimes it will just be a guy with an ax sitting between boxes like an old man catching up with his friends, but sometimes it will be new items or a shortcut. Speaking of…

Come back to the circle on yourself

Whenever you enter a new area, your first task is always exploration. Thymesia loves throwing multiple routes at you at once, and can get incredibly confusing if you’re not paying attention. However, more often than not, it will also offer you shortcuts as long as you pay attention. The easiest way to find many of these is to keep in mind where you’ve been and try to follow new paths that take you in the same direction. You’ll often find doors to open or ladders to knock down that act as shortcuts to your next journey.

You can unlearn talents

As you level up in Thymesia, you will unlock new talent points. Each of these can be used to customize your version of Corvus and can make him specialize in claw attacks, specific types of dodges, or even allow him to recover health with certain attacks. Perhaps most importantly, though, you can honor them as often as you like at no cost. This removes a lot of the choice paralysis you often run into in ARPGs, because if you don’t like how something feels or works, you can go and change it.

Long claw for bosses, Short claw for exploring

On that subject, while you’ll likely find your own preferences pretty quickly, we’ve got some claw-based tips for you. When upgrading your claw attack through talents, you are presented with two options. Either a long claw attack which has high damage and can make enemies bleed, or a short claw attack which is incredibly fast, makes you stronger and steals a small amount of health with each hit when you have enough buffs. In our experience, Long Claw is exceptional against bosses, who tend to have more super armor than standard enemies and don’t stagger on Short Claw attacks, plus the bleed effect helps keep DPS up. The short claw attack, meanwhile, and specifically its ability to heal you, works best against standard enemies, and finding a weak enemy to rend can help you scout for longer.

Predator claw often

Speaking of claws, Predator Claw is an ability that allows you to steal the plague weapon associated with any enemy you hit with it. It also does a lot of damage, but one of the best benefits is that it can occasionally take out plague weapon shards from enemies. These can be used to unlock and then upgrade new plague weapons, which can help you further develop your playstyle. So make sure to use Predator Claw often to try and power up those secondary attacks.

You can respect after the first boss

Thymesia-tips-tricks-respec.jpg

The final entry in our Thymesia tips and tricks is that while you can respect your talents whenever you want, you can’t do the same with your levels. However, once you’ve beaten the first boss, you’ll unlock the ability to replay your stats and an item to do so. These items are a bit rare, so don’t go too hard with them, but it’s a good opportunity to spruce up your build a bit once you’re a bit more familiar with the game.
