Navigating clean beauty is anything but easy. There are many variables to consider, including whether the ingredients are non-toxic, organic, sustainably sourced, or vegan. Since the term clean beauty is not regulated by a governing body, it is up to the buyer, aka you, to decide what is most important. “I personally define clean beauty as wellness products that are free of harsh chemicals, have transparent ingredients, and are kind to the skin,” says Natalie Pergar, licensed esthetician and lead skin care trainer at Eminence Organic Skin Care.
“I also look for clean beauty products from brands that have initiatives that give back to the community and the environment,” she says. “I feel better knowing that the products I use are not only effective in addressing my skin concerns, but also have a direct impact on the environment I live in,” she says.
If you’re interested in developing a clean beauty routine, Pergar recommends focusing on a few key factors: “Ask yourself what ‘clean’ means to you and your lifestyle, and [what’s best for] your skin and hair,” he advises. To help you get started, he shares nine of his top picks.
