We’re delighted to announce that Anthony (Tony) Rotunno, New York Times Wedding Staff Editor, has joined our Styles section as Fashion News Editor. He will focus on expanding the section’s service journalism, as well as its coverage of design, trends and the ways in which fashion and style travel from the runway to our daily lives on the streets and at home.

Since joining The Times last year, Tony has overseen features on fashion designer Rosie Assoulin’s debut bridal collection, off-the-beaten-path vintage shops and a new group of tastemakers finding inspiration in Shakers. His instincts to take the cultural temperature ranged from shouting that Scottsdale, Arizona had become a destination for bachelorette debauchery, to noting that cannibalism was having a moment. He also helped start a new column for Styles, All Consuming, about the green shopping trends taking over our social media and demanding to be identified.

Prior to joining The Times, Tony served as senior editor for New York magazine’s Strategist and website section, and as editor-in-chief of the Brooklyn Paper, where his work earned him a first-place award for headline writing. from New York Press. Association. Prior to that, he co-founded The Thick, a digital-only media brand for which he interviewed fashion figures such as Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber; Hood By Air founder Shayne Oliver; and Laurie Lynn Stark from Chrome Hearts. (After its release, The Thick and its parent company The Wall Group were acquired by Endeavour.)

Tony has also held positions at Departures, where he worked with the magazine’s longtime editor, Richard David Story, and Vanity Fair, where he served as an executive assistant to former magazine editor, Graydon Carter. From both men, he gained an understanding of the finer things—tailored suits, fancy watches, anything vicuña—and the knowledge that he could rarely afford them.

“I’m excited and honored to join the team of editors and writers who educate Times readers on the ins and outs, the ups and downs of fashion,” said Tony. “Especially now, as an industry known for its gatekeepers is showing real signs of democratization.”

Please join us in welcoming Tony to his new role.
