The Fashion Trust US elects a board of advisors – World Water Day

Fashion Trust US has selected an advisory board for the inaugural Fashion Trust US Awards 2023.

The advisory board will support the Fashion Trust US in the selection of financial grant finalists.

Consultants include Mike Amiri, Amiri’s creative director; businesswoman and philanthropist Carmen Busquets; Fernando García, Oscar de la Renta’s co-designer; businesswoman Amy Griffin; Bethann Hardison, luxury brand consultant and fashion advocate; Lázaro Hernández, creative director and co-founder of Proenza Schouler; actress and businesswoman Kate Hudson; businessman Simon Huck; stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson; model and businesswoman Miranda Kerr; Alastair McKimm, editor-in-chief of iD Magazine and stylist; jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer; Jack McCollough, creative director and co-founder of Proenza Schouler; costume designer Arianne Phillips and stylists Law Roach and Kate Young.

“Having worked with [Fashion Trust cofounder] Tania Fares at Fashion Trust in the UK and [Middle East and North Africa] region, I am excited about its expansion into the US and the opportunities it will open up for American designers. As an ardent supporter and mentor of talented young designers, I value organizations that promote creativity, innovation, and ethical practices that respect people and the planet,” said Busquets.

Hardison added: “As there are initiatives to give designers of color a platform, there are never too many, each offering something different and perhaps even more than the other. Tania Fares brought hers to the US and I am happy to be in this forum to provide my expertise and showcase designer brands that I believe are worthy of benefiting from Fashion Trust US.”

Applicants can compete in the following categories: ready-to-wear, jewelry, and graduate awards (college grads and 2020-2022 graduates), as well as two new Google-sponsored categories for sustainability and diversity. As a Platinum Sponsor of the 2023 Fashion Trust US Award, Google and Fashion Trust US will work together to support the diversity, talent, and culture of American design.

Fashion Trust US winners receive financial grants and mentoring covering budget, strategy, digital, merchandising and general business support. US-based designers in business for at least two years are eligible to apply. They can submit applications on the Fashion Trust US portal through January.

The presentation of the finalists and the awards ceremony will take place in early 2023. The three chosen winners will receive a financial grant that will be determined based on the size of the designer’s business. In addition, Google will offer mentorship and exposure for designers.

The Fashion Trust US board consists of Fares, Laura Brown, Anne Crawford, Tan France, Samira Nasr and Karla Welch, with Shay Gipson serving as program director.

The idea for a Fashion Trust organization originated in the UK, where Fares co-founded the program in association with the British Fashion Council and helped support UK fashion designers including Jonathan Anderson, Erdem and Emilia Wickstead. The CFDA launched the CFDA Fashion Trust with Fares in 2018, but that was only for a brief time, when the CFDA decided to shift its focus amid COVID-19 and social justice movements to help designers navigate that time.
