The engine of Modest Fashion Week

FASHION Özlem Şahin Ertaş is a true serial entrepreneur and the woman behind all eight Modest Fashion Week events since its inception in 2014.

There are plenty of people who call themselves serial entrepreneurs, but few who actually do, reaching 2 billion people in the process.

Özlem Şahin Ertaş, CEO and driving force behind Modest Fashion Week, which has so far gone through seven editions since its inception in 2014, certainly fits the bill. He recognized that modest fashion is, and will continue to be, an important segment of the industry, and set out to promote its creators, starting with events in Istanbul, where his company, Think Fashion, is based, before branching out to London, Dubai. , Jakarta and Amsterdam. The next one, as anticipated in Lucire last week, is in Riyadh, with the Modest Fashion Show from Thursday, December 15 to Saturday, December 17.

Even before our paths crossed with Ertaş, we knew about his event, the one in London caused a stir among the Western media, so joining us as a media partner (after we played similar roles in New Zealand, København and San Francisco ) was a privilege.

As CEO, Ertaş is approachable and clearly enthusiastic about modest fashion, telling Lucire that the Riyadh edition had been in the planning for some time and that it promises an exciting event with more than two dozen designers in the Saudi capital at starting Thursday.

He carefully observed that modest fashion is not a passing fad and much of it stems from many people’s personal values and culture.

Having started in the marketing and publishing worlds, Ertaş is no stranger to the demands of the media and how to publicize her event, although her bachelor’s degree in her native Turkey was in industrial engineering, with an MS from the European School. of Economy in Italy in leadership. But fashion has always been there, with a two-year stint at İstanbul Moda Akademisi, not to mention working in textiles for almost two years.

While working in marketing at Modanisa, Ertaş pioneered the first hijab fashion online program, before founding fashion e-commerce companies and businesses modestly.

Some of these companies fall under his Think Fashion brand, including Turkish Made Co. for production and sourcing, and E Tu Creative Agency for brand communications and marketing.

In addition to our headline coverage, she has been featured in Vogue Italia, Vogue Arabia, Khaleej Times, The National, Middle East Eye, and others.
