In August, I usually start wearing waterproof eye makeup, not because I suddenly find myself in a lot of water, but because my own body has turned against me and the sweat is staining my mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow. Because it’s so hot outside, many of my picks for the best August beauty shoots are designed to withstand treacherous weather conditions and any related ailments. As for the feel, it’s more buttery than sticky, thanks to the aloe, avocado, and shea butters, and when I say it melts on your lips, I mean it really *melts*.
A shine-enhancing cream for sensitive skin
Ferulic acid is an expensive ingredient, but trusted by the editors of Elite Daily when it comes to correcting cystic acne in adults. This new cream from DERMAdoctor is not cheap, but I have tried it and it has worked wonders for my irritated skin during the summer. In addition to ferulic acid, it also contains ceramides and vitamins E and C. In other words, it boosts shine without stripping moisture, making it a great option for sensitive skin that flares up easily. It’s also incredibly rich, so a little goes a long way.
An ultra-hydrating sunscreen

As much as I love my inevitable tanned skin (even with SPF) every summer, I definitely don’t love the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that is exacerbated by beach vacations and long days in the sun. If you’re a POC and have dealt with hyperpigmentation, you’re probably familiar with hydroquinone, an ingredient with a troubled history, commonly found in “skin whitening” products.
