Now, combined with stellar reviews, “M3GAN” has all the makings of a “blockbuster,” says Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at Box Office Pro, who predicts a $20 million-plus opening weekend.

“M3GAN” follows a girl (Violet McGraw) whose aunt (Allison Williams) builds her a robot companion after her parents are killed in a car accident. As she can guess, the overprotective android soon takes on a mind of her own and racks up a shockingly high body count.
Due to the movie’s theatrical release in January’s no man’s land, many people expected “M3GAN” to be a flop. But the smart comedy thriller has a surprisingly strong positive rating of 95% on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, better than Oscar contenders like “Elvis” (77%) and “The Whale” (66%).
Naturally, fans of horror movies are delighted that “M3GAN” meets the sky-high expectations.

Many of M3GAN’s best memes are about how it effectively usurped Annabelle and Chucky as the reigning creepy doll in horror. Even rapper Megan Thee Stallion got in on the joke, tweeting that Annabelle was “over.”
Renesmee paved the way for M3GAN
Speaking of haunting dolls, remember Renesmee from “Twilight”? The daughter of Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) was initially played by a haunting animatronic puppet in “Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” before being cast away by a digitally animated baby. But the evidence lives online, and it bears a striking resemblance to M3GAN itself.
