Footwear among athletes is always a hot topic. Exclusive sneaker deals, custom sneakers, and pregame cleats always draw the attention of envious onlookers and sneaker lovers. Taylor Heinicke, however, treats his shoe less as a fashion statement and more as a statement to the rest of the NFL.
The Commanders quarterback has once again been thrust into a starting role, this time following an injury to starter Carson Wentz. Heinicke’s contract includes a nice bonus for every game he starts and wins, and that extra change is well worth it.

Heinicke gets paid $125,000 per winning start, and he uses that money to buy a nice new pair of Jordan shoes in the colors of the team he beats.
Why does Taylor Heinicke buy Jordan after every win?
The quarterback explained that it’s a fairly new tradition that started during the 2021 season while he was at the coach’s table:
That started last year. I really started to get into the sneaker game last year, we started winning games – I’m a little guy, I get hit throughout the game, so I’m in the training room for a long time, while I was in training. room, I said, ‘You know what? I’m going to start this little tradition where every team we beat, I’m going to buy some Jordans in their color scheme. That started last year, and yesterday I was in the training room and found a nice green and yellow 5 that I bought.
Heinicke’s first win this year came in a Week 7 matchup against the Packers, 23-21. He showed off the new kicks in the week following the win:

With his second start (and win) in 2022, this time over the Colts, Heinicke decided to get his fans involved: he left them the choice of the Jordan, leaving voting options on his Instagram page.

Heinicke and the Commanders couldn’t secure a win against the Vikings in week 9, but that’s okay: purple and gold would have led to some ugly kicks anyway.
Their trend continued Tuesday morning after the Commanders’ shock win over the previously undefeated Eagles. Heinicke chose a pair of white and green Jordan 4s for the win:
