Syracuse Fashion Week 2022 kicks off with an energetic ‘Spring Fling’ at the Aloft Hotel Inner Harbor (photos)

With the beats of Fergie’s “Glamorous” blaring through the speakers, Syracuse Fashion Week returned to the Aloft Inner Harbor Hotel on Thursday night.

Models walked the runway with smiles and style, sharing spring fashions and accessories from local boutiques and brands.

This weekend marks the triumphant return to the runway for the annual design showcase, with three shows at Syracuse venues featuring nearly two dozen designers and more than 120 models.

Danielle Thousand was the first model on the runway, opening Baldwinsville’s Fashion Rescue 911 show. Thousand has participated in Fashion Week since its inception in 2014, but Thursday night was the first time she had opened the show. Thousand says her excitement helped fuel her ferocious swagger down the runway.

The catwalk went to the dogs as four-legged friends wearing pet accessories from ‘Walking Miss Daisy’ took center stage. Owner Chyloe Frank makes colorful leashes and necklaces by hand, and the audience was enchanted by the hats and scarves designed perfectly for fur babies.

The lineup included veteran designers like New York Optometric, which has showcased its latest eyewear collections at Syracuse Fashion Week since its first show in 2014.

Newcomer Flower Skate Shop made its Spring Fling debut. Owned by John More and Charlie Giancola, the McCarthy Mercantile boutique features vintage fashion and skate wear. The models took to the catwalk in pastel and neutral colored garments with matching sunflower sunglasses.

During a brief intermission, organizers opened the floor for donations to The Food Bank of Central New York. A collection of $287 from the audience will fund 861 meals for local families in need. For every dollar donated, the Food Bank can distribute three meals; Fashion Week has donated $12,000 and provided 40,000 meals to local families since 2014.

The closing designer was Michelle DaRin, whose jewelry and clothing brand has a bohemian, bold and edgy look.

This year, DaRin featured Ukrainian child models dressed in yellow and blue and carrying Ukrainian flags in solidarity with the Ukrainian community in Syracuse and around the world.
