Suffolk girl to hold fashion show to combat bullying – The Suffolk News-Herald

After months of healing, Morgan Robinson is turning her pain into purpose with a fashion show.

The Takeover Fashion Show will kick off at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 5 at R&L’s Rentals and Party Supplies, 204 E. Washington St. The show is intended to encourage kids who have been bullied and are struggling with low self-esteem and anxiety.

Morgan is 11 years old and first rose to fame when her classmates posted a video on Facebook and Instagram of her being attacked by a fellow student at King’s Fork High School in October 2021. Facebook removed the video. later, but according to her mother, Shareka Robinson, the incident caused her both physical and emotional pain that Morgan had to overcome.

The video is not how Morgan wants to be remembered, so she decided to take her negative experiences and turn them into something positive.

Being a “girly girl” who loves pink, she decided to become an entrepreneur and start her own clothing line, Charming Diva Co. She started the company to show others that they can do whatever they put their mind to no matter what anyone else says.

“Many children suffer from depression and Morgan wants to speak up and share her story,” said Robinson.

Morgan plans to put all the proceeds from the fashion show toward her latest project: expanding her clothing line and creating a nonprofit that helps other kids struggling with mental health, depression and anxiety.

The fashion show will feature speakers, dancers and 30 children modeling clothing with meaning. Each color will represent a different positive message, which includes overcoming difficulties, being yourself and doing everything you set out to do.

“This is a good opportunity for the community,” Robinson said. “We want to help the community bring attention to bullying and create change.”

Morgan also speaks publicly to encourage others. She has spoken at conferences, including serving on a panel for the Southeastern Virginia Health System town hall that focuses on helping youth overcome mental health challenges. She was also recently named a Parents Against Bullying VA Youth Ambassador.

Attendees are asked to make a $20 donation to help start their non-profit organization. Contact Shareka Robinson at [email protected] for tickets. Learn more by visiting Charming Diva Co. on Facebook.
