Riot Games Practice Study Guide Vol. 2: Tips and tricks to apply

We review applications on an ongoing basis, so we recommend applying earlier when there is a higher chance the position will become available. There are four stages starting with your application, then a craft test, some interviews, and finally a decision.

Apply

Complete the online application. Apply for positions that align with your interests and experience. Please, do not apply for all the positions, only for the ones that really catch your eye.

Next, be sure to include all requested materials: resume, answers to application questions, personal website/linkedin, and any other questions related to the specific internship you are applying for. Please make sure your resume is up to date as you cannot replace it once submitted.

Quick Resume Tip: Tailoring your resume to the opportunity goes a long way! By understanding the job description and making sure to include your overlapping experiences, you will ensure that you stand out from the crowd. Feel free to include college and extracurricular courses as well, if it’s relevant to the job, it’s good to add.

For the questions on the application, be sure to bring your authentic self. We want to match you with the opportunities that allow you to achieve your goals. Here are some examples:

craft test

We want internships at Riot to be completely hands-on. That means interns will be able to work directly with other Rioters to impact our products and teams. For some roles, this requires a strong understanding of the area you are interested in. For example, in sound design and engineering roles, you’ll have a take-home test to review your skills and fundamentals. Not all internship openings come with a craft test, but be prepared to test your skills after you apply.

Interviews

While craft skills are important, we also seek interns who have strong interpersonal skills such as communication, collaboration, and problem solving. These are the interviews you will go through:

Preliminary evaluation: In this interview, you and a recruiter from the team will explore your educational and professional background together to ensure that you are suitable for the position you have applied for.

Craft Interview: This interview assesses hard skills that are unique to the position you have applied for. For example, a software engineering intern might be expected to answer questions related to data structures and algorithms.

Behavioral Interview: This interview reviews how you align with our values and the values you carry in your own life.

Decision

This one is pretty self explanatory. After following all of these steps, we will notify candidates that they have been selected to join the Riot NA Internship Program in 2023.

Tips for Riot Trainers:

MISTAKE?!: Please ensure that all information submitted is accurate. There will be no way to update your application once it has been submitted. You’ll need to resubmit a fresh request, so it’s definitely worth double-checking before you submit.

Check: Have your application reviewed by a trusted peer, advisor, family member, or mentor. Their college career center is another great resource for preparing resumes and job applications.

Be specific. Be intentional: Apply for the position that best aligns with your interests and experience.

PDF: PDFs are your ally! It is recommended that your attached documents be in a format that can be easily read and downloaded.
