PS Vita, PS3 emulator possibly in the works

A new job advertisement posted by PlayStation Studios has fans hoping for a PS Vita and PS3 emulator one more time. As detected by ResetEra Uzupedro, Sony is hiring a software development engineer who will work specifically as a “classics engineer” to develop new emulators, among other tasks. PS3 emulation seems like a pipe dream, but never say never!

Fans have long waited for a proper PS3 emulator

Over the years, we’ve heard numerous reports that Sony is officially looking to bring PS3 emulation to the PS5, and the general consensus is that the PS3 architecture is to blame for the company’s delay. However, many in the gaming community argue that PS3 emulation on the PS5 is certainly possible, but something Sony probably doesn’t want to spend time and resources on. Some have even suggested that the company should hire developers from RPCS3, the team behind the popular unofficial cross-platform open source PS3 emulator.

“Our Software Development Engineer position works in the PlayStation Studios Technology and Tools team to support recently re-released classics for PS4 and PS5,” the job description reads. “Classic games run through emulation of legacy PlayStation platforms. As an engineer on Classics, he will work closely with a group of other engineers, producers, and QA teams to fix bugs, add new features, and develop new emulators.”

While it’s clear that the aforementioned job description refers to the classics on PS Plus Premium, that hasn’t stopped fans from getting their hopes up.

On the other hand, it’s encouraging to see that Sony is looking to attract people into the PS Plus Premium classics because they had a pretty rough launch.

In other news, here are new PS5 and PS4 games releasing this week, and we’ve found a fix for the PS Plus Extra/Premium DLC to appear locked for some players.
