The images, within a post with the headline ‘a short story’, showed the publicity board with a picture of network television’s coverage of the Scottish Premiership before and after Dons fans saw who was selected for promote the package.

Rangers star Fashion Sakala was chosen to center the ad, celebrating his goal in a 1-1 draw against Celtic at Parkhead last season, but Aberdeen fans had different views on the selection choice. .

The billboard has since been attacked, and Sakala’s image covered in purple paint and tagged ‘UA22’ so you can no longer see who is in the photo.

The deal worth just under £30m sparked a debate among fans and pundits alike with SunSport columnist Kris Boyd speaking out defending the broadcaster.

He believes this is excellent news for both clubs and fans.

He said: “It was fantastic to hear the news of talks between the SPFL and Sky Sports about an extended television deal for Scottish football.

“People always have an opinion about Sky and they like to jump and moan.

“But over the years, the broadcast giant is the only one that puts its money where its mouth is.

“Sky has served Scottish football well and once again it appears that the company is willing to guarantee a lot of money to support our game.

“No doubt there will still be rumors about Sky, but what I will say is that other broadcasters have had the opportunity to make a better offer.

“And once again, they seem to be nowhere to be seen.”
