THE last two years of the pandemic were not particularly focused on flights or fashion events.

However, given how well the Philippine tourism and fashion industries are currently doing and how both are contributing to the country’s economic recovery, these have become rekindled passions.

Asia Pacific Fashion Week (APFW), which has been postponed for two years due to the pandemic, will finally take place in the US in August 2022 at a time when international travel between the Philippines and the US is back on track. pre-pandemic levels.

In its first year, APFW honors Filipino fashion designers. Eight talented young Filipino designers from Europe, the United States and the Philippines are showcasing their work at APFW, which will kick off at Hollywood’s iconic Roosevelt Hotel on August 6, 2022, as part of the event’s goal of supporting up-and-coming designers. Los Angeles, where PAL flies twice daily from Manila, will serve as APFW’s “home” city in 2022 due to its growing importance in the global fashion industry.

Many fashion experts agree that Los Angeles is the place to be, with a constant stream of big-name designers settling there. After London, Milan, Paris and New York, LA is now considered the “fifth fashion capital” of the world.

Following the Los Angeles debut, APFW presents a second fashion show the weekend of August 13 at the Decades Event Center in Las Vegas. Then, on August 20, 2022, the APFW travels to New Jersey, where it will be one of the special ancillary performances of “Fiesta in America 2022”, one of the largest and longest running annual Filipino celebrations on the East Coast of the US. As an ambassador for unique Filipino-style travel, Philippine Airlines has honored the creativity of local apparel designers since its founding, similar to advocating for APFW. In fact, there was a time when PAL had their flight attendants wear uniforms with a hint of Filipino culture to establish the Filipino national identity.

“Giving space to Filipino fashion talents in the global arena is an idea whose time has come. And the timing of our partnership with Philippine Airlines is perfect,” said Roger Oriel, CEO of Asian Journal Multimedia Group (APFW’s media partner) and founder of APFW.

Filipino designers appearing at APFW will fly in from multiple locations: Lionell Christian Lanuzo (from Milan), Jil&Jug Couture by Jugger Onate and Jil Lasaca (from London and Dallas), Alma Tomenio (from Las Vegas), and RACS Fashion Accessories by Racso and Wenelie Jugarap (from Brussels and Los Angeles).

Filipino designers showing their work at APFW include Toshimi Pacumbala, Angelo Dominic, Jian Lasala and Dave Ocampo. For tickets and inquiries: [email protected]
