Patrick Ta Beauty Major Skin Crème Foundation Review

Finding the best foundation can seem hit or miss. Considering the preferred finishes, formulas, and ease of use of a product, the options may seem limited. An editor tried out an innovative new foundation and loved the results.

Foundation and I have a love/hate relationship. I usually go for a dewy, lighter coverage skin tint or serum for a couple of reasons: not only does foundation tend to be more difficult to apply without a brush or sponge, it’s also hard to find the coverage and the finish I want on a product

Still, my mission was to try to find the foundation that meets all my requirements: medium to full coverage, a shimmery finish, and a pack that doesn’t take up too much space in my makeup bag (because I’ll no doubt be applying it to the back of an Uber on the way to an event). So when Patrick Ta Beauty introduced Major Skin Crème Foundation and Finishing Powder Duos ($52), the hunt was on again.

The duo comes in 24 shades and features a cream base with a matching setting powder. While that range of shades would normally deter me from trying a complexion product in the post-Fenty world we live in now, the brand says the foundation has a “flexible polymer blend.” In other words, similar to the skin tints and serums I’m used to, one shade should be able to work for multiple skin tones. With that in mind, the shade “Tan 3” was recommended to me after taking the website’s color matching quiz.

The duo’s packaging is just as beautiful as the rest of Patrick Ta Beauty’s products: the makeup is housed in its signature rose gold packaging. When I opened it, I immediately awarded points for functionality. The compact was split in two, with the cream foundation on top and the powder on the bottom. There was a small plastic flap that covered the base, which prevented it from reaching the powder brush. On top of all that, it also had a very decent sized mirror, making it perfect for use on the go.

Excitedly, I grabbed my #3 Rose Inc. Foundation Brush ($32) and brushed it onto my foundation. When I applied it, the product easily covered my dark spots and freckles, so I knew I met the medium coverage criteria. Once I applied it fully to my entire face, there was a soft matte finish that, while not the glassy skin glow that I adore, was still a shimmery, natural-looking glow that I really liked. I then set my face with the powder, which gave me a blurred effect, almost like a filter.

Overall, this foundation was easy to use, provided incredible coverage, and was portable enough for my lifestyle. I’m a big advocate of beauty products fitting seamlessly into your routine, and this pressed foundation has done exactly that and more. Plus, the built-in powder section will allow me to pull another pressed powder out of my makeup bag, which is one less thing to carry.

Even though the undertone was slightly off, I’m pretty sure going down a tone will fix the problem, so I’ll get my hands on the right tone ASAP. Trust me, this foundation has an exceptional design and the product itself is fantastic. I will say that it is probably best to go to the store to find the best combination of shades, but that is a very small price to pay for a perfect product. Prepare not to hear me shut up on this basis for the next three to six months.
