CHARLESTON, South Carolina – The Citadel wrestling team opened 2022-23 with a dominating 45-0 victory over Queens University on Tuesday night inside McAlister Field House.

Ben Haubert opened the game with a fall in the second half. He secured a takedown in the opening period, then used a takedown in the second period to use for the knockdown. Micah DiCarlo followed with a tackle and a near fall in the opening period, before securing six points on a near fall in the second period on his way to the tech fall victory. Mark Chaid followed much of the same script as DiCarlo, as he made quick work of his opponent, taking the match, 18-0, in 4:35. In a thrilling match at 285, John Chesser fell behind before coming back strongly in the second period. He wore down his much bigger opponent and was finally able to get the turn for the knockdown. Blair Orr was quick to get on the board in his debut. He registered a takedown in the first 10 seconds of the game and held on for the rest of the period. He got a quick change in the second period and clinched the knockdown at 4:32. George Rosas was very active in his game at 133 pounds, picking up a takedown and four near-drop points in the first period. Jason Garay secured three takedowns in the opening period, including the last one just before the buzzer. He came through the second period on top and then added a pair of takedowns in the third period for the big decision win. Ethan Willis controlled his match early on with a 5-0 win. He got a tackle early, then topped the rest of the first period and the entire second period. He would add a third-period setback and clinch driving time. Selwyn Porter scored six points in the first period and battled his way to an 11-5 victory at 157 pounds. Brodie Porter was sacked early in the game, but was able to come back with a 2nd-period takedown to gain a one-point lead. He followed it up with a strong third period for a 9-2 win.
