Old Video Of A Security Guard Slapping A Hippo At A Zoo Goes Viral

The hippo was trying to get out of his enclosure.

The hippopotamus is one of the largest animals on the planet and is known to be aggressive. Although its behavior is calm, the animal can scare people with its rapid movements. A video circulating on social media shows a security guard risking his life to push a hippo back into its enclosure to save visitors. The video was first posted in March of this year and has resurfaced. This time, it’s been posted on Twitter by a handle called B&S with the caption: “Security guard risking his life to save incredibly unsuspecting zoo visitors from a hippo.”

Since it was shared two days ago, the clip has amassed 4.5 million views. While the date is not mentioned, the video is reported to have been shot at the Delhi Zoo.

It shows the hippopotamus trying to get out of its enclosure as visitors look on in surprise. A security guard immediately rushes to the scene and slaps the hippo, signaling for it to return to his enclosure. But the animal keeps opening its wide mouth again and again.

The guard holds his hand up, trying to threaten the hippo, but the animal tries to assert his dominance. But the guard keeps pushing the huge animal, gently hitting its head.

The hippo eventually climbs down the fence and back into the enclosure.

The 39-second video has drawn a lot of comments from Twitter users, who said hitting an animal is wrong.

“Hitting an animal is wrong. One should never hit an animal. Animals should not be held captive. Animals should be kept in sanctuaries for animal protection, not human pleasure,” one user tweeted.

“He’s a hippo, I’d be surprised if he felt it, and he’s clearly not afraid of it,” said another.
