Models Wear Only Duct Tape During New York Fashion Week – OutKick

New York Fashion Week got off to a rocky start on Sunday, thanks to strategically placed ribbon.

Designer Joel Alvarez, who specializes in skin-safe artistic body tape, debuted his latest tacky fashion line on Sunday. He did it at the Angel Orensanz Foundation in Manhattan. The New York sold-out show was dubbed “The Black Tape Project” and featured models in solo…you guessed it: tape.

Not your typical fashion piece.

The models who walked the catwalk in New York were dressed in white or black ribbon, shoes and some other jewelry, although nobody noticed.

Alvarez, who calls himself “The King of Duct Tape,” has been in the business since 2008. He took a liking to the tape after using the adhesive to keep clothing neatly placed on dancers and models in the Miami area. After realizing how good tape looked by itself on models’ bodies, a tape-inspired body art career was born.

And what better place to show off some tape, and so much more, than New York Fashion Week?

New York Fashion Week runs through Wednesday

Sunday’s parade was used as an opportunity to showcase Alvarez’s swimwear line, though it’s unlikely you’ll see any of these ribbons floating in the public pool.

But, if you’re looking to stick on a bikini or cover up those hard-to-reach places, you’re in luck!

The Black Tape Project website sells rolls of body tape that range in price from $9.99 to $29.99. And they offer a variety of colors. This ensures that you won’t be going to the beach in that same black strappy thong two days in a row. Best of all, US shipping is free if you spend more than $100.

Christmas came early!

I myself have never experienced the alleged pain of removing a taped bathing suit after a day at the beach. But I imagine it’s even less comfortable than dealing with a few trunks full of sand. That said, these models should stick with that. He just took them to New York.
