NY – On Wednesday, PETA “models” will roll out a carpeted “runway” outside Urban Outfitters on Broadway across from Herald Square and form their own runway showcasing designs made of hyper-real “human skin” from Urban Outraged, a marketing effort from PETA guerrillas. to resemble a real online store that sells jackets, boots, skirts, and bags made from what appears to be human skin. The group hopes the gruesome fashion show will make people question the acceptability of using the skin of any living thing for fashion, something Urban Outfitters brands including Anthropologie and Free People do by selling wool, cashmere, mohair , leather, down, silk, and alpaca wool, all of which represent extreme violence, cruelty, and fear.

When: Wednesday, December 14, 12 noon

Where: 1333 Broadway, at the intersection with W. 35th Street, New York

“A cow’s skin belongs to him, and he feels fear and pain in a slaughterhouse just as much as you or I do,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is challenging shoppers to see the individual behind every bit of animal fur on store shelves and shelves and opt for cruelty-free clothing.”

PETA, whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear,” opposes speciesism, a human supremacist worldview.
