BEAUMONT, Texas — A first-generation Mexican-American businesswoman from Southeast Texas has spent years making sure every face she touches feels beautiful and safe.

Emily Lopez’s career began as a school teacher, but now she teaches women of all ages and races the importance of skin care and finding inner confidence.

She is the owner of Bee-YOU-tiful Studio in Beaumont.

“For me, makeup is about inner confidence. That’s my platform,” she said.

López was born in the US, but moved to Mexico and lived there until he was five years old.

Lopez’s career in the beauty industry began 13 years ago when she started selling Mary Kay makeup in college to earn some extra cash. At the time, she says makeup wasn’t that accessible.

“Mary Kay gave me the model. I had a lot of people say, ‘Hey, I love this stuff. I’m glad you showed me how to put it on, but I want you to do it.’ I naturally got into that art of makeup, the instruction makeup is really what I love to do,” she said.

The world of beauty is something she has grown up with since she was born, but it wasn’t until 2012 that she brushed her first client’s face.

That first customer was a girlfriend. From that moment she would start a lifelong career.

In 2019, Lopez moved into her second and current studio space, where she welcomes other makeup artists like her to work.

She also teaches makeup education classes for women of all ages and races.

“When people see that change on the outside, that’s what they need sometimes. Sometimes they just need that little ray of hope, that little ray of ‘Oh, I feel pretty today,’ and that starts to change something inside and with it.” time,” Lopez said. .
