Line-up revealed for BBC Platinum Party at the Palace

The BBC and Buckingham Palace today unveiled a brilliant line-up of artists from the world of music and dance who will perform at the Platinum Party At The Palace concert which will take place on Saturday 4 June at Buckingham Palace, and live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Radio 2.

Queen + Adam Lambert, Alicia Keys, Hans Zimmer, Ella Eyre, Craig David, Mabel, Elbow and George Ezra will share the three-stage set-up with Duran Duran, Andrea Bocelli, Mimi Webb, Sam Ryder, Jax Jones, Celeste, Nile Rodgers, Sigala and Diversity, all performing their biggest hits in a star-studded tribute to Her Majesty’s unprecedented anniversary.

Stars of stage and screen, and from the world of sport appearing at the event and in the film will include Sir David Attenborough, Emma Raducanu, David Beckham, Stephen Fry, Dame Julie Andrews, The Royal Ballet, Ellie Simmonds and a performance specially engraved Sir Elton John. Sam Ryder, the UK’s Eurovision hero, will also perform live, fresh from his hit in Italy.

The evening will revolve around global themes that were born or evolved during Her Majesty’s reign due to extraordinary British and Commonwealth contributions, including fashion, sport, the environment, 70 years of pop music and musicals, the latter curated by legendary composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, with a special appearance by Lloyd Webber and Lin-Manuel Miranda, plus performances with casts and special guests from The Phantom Of The Opera, Hamilton, Six, The Lion King and Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat .

Queen + Adam Lambert will open the concert with a very special one-off production that will no doubt bring back memories of Brian May’s historic appearance on the Palace roof at the Golden Jubilee Concert in 2002.

The two and a half hour show will be closed by legend Diana Ross, with her first live performance in the UK in 15 years.

Hosts Kirsty Young and Roman Kemp will host live coverage of Platinum Party At The Palace, which will be broadcast live on the BBC. Twenty-two thousand people will attend the event, including 10,000 tickets allocated in a public vote and more than 7,500 tickets for key workers, members of the Armed Forces, volunteers and charities.

Platinum Party’s unique stage layout consists of three stages, linked by walkways, creating a 360-degree experience facing Buckingham Palace and the Queen Victoria Memorial. Linking the stages into one overall design are 70 columns representing Her Majesty’s 70-year reign that can be illuminated to provide a full array of lights and beams. For the first time, two of the three sets are located immediately in front of Buckingham Palace, framing the Queen’s iconic home.

Diana Ross says: “I have had the honor of meeting the Queen many times throughout my life, including when with my family. Her Majesty has been and continues to be an incredible inspiration to so many around the world and I was delighted to be invited to perform on such a momentous and historic occasion.”

Sir Rod Stewart says: “Queen Elizabeth has provided incredible service to the UK over the last 70 years and I am delighted to be able to join her in celebrating her Platinum Jubilee with the Party at the Palace. She has shown the world how special she is to her and how lucky we are to have her. This will be a momentous occasion.”

Platinum Party’s unique stage layout consists of three stages, linked by walkways, creating a unique 360-degree experience facing Buckingham Palace and the Queen Victoria Memorial. Uniting the stages in an overall design are 70 columns representing the unprecedented 70 years of Her Majesty’s reign the Queen of her. Each column represents the importance of each year that Queen Elizabeth has been on the throne. During the concert, each one can light up until all 70 come to life in a full formation of lights and beams. For the first time, two of the three sets are located immediately in front of Buckingham Palace, framing the Queen’s iconic home. To the left of the Palace is the Orchestra stage with a 75-piece Full Orchestra of military musicians from the British Army Division of House Bands. To the right of the Palace is the Pop stage, which is backed by LED screens that can be opened to present staging and performance pieces. Opposite the Queen Victoria Memorial is the QVM stage, which faces the crowds on The Mall. The entire front of Buckingham Palace will be projected onto a map, making it the UK’s biggest screen for the evening. During the two and a half hour live concert, more than 30 artists and performers will be in the lineup of pop, rock, classical music and musicals. They will be joined on stage by famous faces from sport, stage and screen. Set design is by Stufish Entertainment Architects.
