● Eat healthy! Yes, it means giving up many things that you devour; especially street food, junk food, adulterated items, desserts and carbonated drinks. This does not mean that you go for the sugar-free option, as these have a lot of chemicals to make your drink delicious. Include seasonal fruits and vegetables, seeds, dairy products, and whole grains, and drink as much water as you can. Hydration is of the utmost importance.

● Trainings are mandatory! You don’t have to join a gym or be too hard on yourself. There are countless options for shedding extra pounds. You can take a walk at dusk and dawn. Give it 30 minutes and be constant so that the body shows noticeable changes.

● Stress management is the key. Diabetes is often linked to other conditions, such as cardiovascular defects, stroke, CKD, nerve damage, foot problems, and infections. Lots of things go off and ruin the condition when you get really stressed. Try to meditate and maintain your stress levels to keep things under control.

● Keep alcohol and tobacco at bay. Avoiding beer, wine, or any liquor can help drastically regulate blood sugar levels. Also, smoking can increase the risk of getting other chronic conditions while you are diabetic. Make healthy choices and eradicate even the slightest consumption of these substances.

According to the World Health Organization, diabetes is a growing challenge in India, with approximately 8.7% of the population suffering from the condition in the 20-70 age group. Urbanization, sedentary lifestyle, harmful substances and unhealthy food choices are the main culprits for diabetes in people.

There is also a large body of research showing that air and water pollution is responsible for many chronic diseases, diabetes being one of them. Take maximum care of your health.
