The Lourdes Central Catholic women’s basketball team recorded its first two wins of the season during road action at Humboldt-Table Rock/Steiner on Friday, December 9 and during home action against Pawnee City on Tuesday, December 13.

Lourdes built a 49-17 lead over HTRS through three quarters of play on December 9 and won 55-31.

Aspen Meyer was 4-for-6 from the field and had a team-high 19 points. Jenna Box also shot 4 of 6 from the field and scored 10 points. Theresa Gygi made 7 of 8 shots from the field and finished with 15. Sofia Fulton also scored, four; Evie Madison, three; Lauren Benedict, three; and Isabelle Fulton, one.

The Knights jumped out to a 27-6 lead in a Dec. 13 win over Pawnee City in the 61-17 final.

Aspen Meyer shot 9-of-14 from the field and was 6-of-8 at the free throw line for a team-high 24 points. Other scorers were Sofia Fulton, 11; Jenna Box, six; Teresa Gygi, six; Evie Madison, four; Ella Welsh, four; Citlali Rodríguez, two; Isabelle Fulton, two; and Brooklyn Walton, two.

The score of the match on December 13 was strongly in favor of the home team, which can lead to sloppy play. Coach Mark Madison said his team stayed focused and played well.

“We ran the hard floor. We made a good transition,” Coach Madison said, adding that the Knights were also able to work on different defensive strategies.
