‘KLIA Karen’ goes viral for scolding airline staff in Kuala Lumpur

A short clip of a foreign tourist berating an airline staff member at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has gone viral on TikTok.

Uploaded Tuesday by TikTok user Yully Lee (@ladiessssyl), a member of the airline’s ground crew, the 16-second clip shows a woman verbally attacking Lee’s co-worker. Her caption asked, “What would you do if people like that attacked you for no reason?”

In the video, the woman slams her hand and her Norwegian passport on the counter, threatening to call the embassy over the worker’s “fucking ass”. The woman proceeds to cross her arms and make kissing faces, mocking her staff member.

The video concludes with the woman saying “f*ck you” and demanding the name of the staff member.

TikTok users called the woman “KLIA Karen,” with “Karen” being a slang term often used to refer to white women with a heightened sense of entitlement.

Although Lee has refused to disclose any further details about the incident, KLIA District Police Chief Iram Abd Rahman said the tourist was fined RM100 (approximately $23) for inappropriate behavior, reported The tight times.

“The The woman had boarded the plane and then claimed that she had left some of her things behind and demanded to get out, but she was not allowed to do so, so she made a scene,” Imran explained. She “She was arrested and we charged her for behaving indecently and she was fined RM100”.
