Kensington Palace officials have begun refusing to release details about Kate’s outfit amid frustration that so much media coverage is focused on what she wears. Until recently, details of the Princess of Wales’s attire were always given for every official engagement, except for visits to estates or gardens where she dressed very casually.
But now they routinely refuse to say so, unless it’s an enormously glamorous occasion, like a movie premiere, a state event, or a visit abroad where you’re deploying fashion diplomacy by wearing items designed in the host nation. .
Palace officials regularly gave details of the late Queen’s outfits and have traditionally done so for Queen Consort Camilla when she was Duchess of Cornwall.
Some outfits worn by the late monarch or by Princess Diana have formed the centerpieces of palace displays used to entice the public to pay to visit the royal residences.
Kate’s aides say fashion experts are still able to quickly identify the designers, but they will no longer officially confirm or deny the details.
She is believed to have worn a £35 Mango knit dress and a £359 Hobbs coat for the engagement at the Colham Manor Children’s Center in Hillingdon, west London, yesterday.

The fashion and society magazine described Kate’s style as “superstar sovereign”.

The 40-year-old chatted with Edward Enninful while attending an awards ceremony hosted by the British Fashion Council at London’s Design Museum in May.
The editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine said: “I feel like she has been able to grow up so gracefully.
“Her style is inspiring for many people, they identify with her, but without losing what is important to her.”
Enninful and Kate talked about the British fashion industry during the awards ceremony.
The British Vogue editor-in-chief added: “She was saying Britain is very important and leading the way in the world.”
