Kanye West, Candace Owens Don ‘White Lives Matter’ T-shirts at YZY Season 9 Presentation at Paris Fashion Week

Kanye West seemed intent on launching the ninth season of his fashion label YZY with no small amount of controversy in Paris on Monday night, appearing in a long-sleeved shirt with “White Lives Matter” emblazoned on it. The livestreamed showcase saw West, 45, give a speech to the audience in the T-shirt. “I am Ye,” he said, “and everyone here knows that I am the leader. You can’t handle me. Conservative black pundit Candace Owens was also in attendance and was pictured alongside West wearing a matching T-shirt. Designated a hate slogan by the Anti-Defamation League, “White Lives Matter” is a phrase widely associated with the far right and white supremacists. West, who made his runway debut on Sunday as part of Balenciaga’s Summer 2023 collection, did not offer direct comment on his fashion choices. In an Instagram story on Sunday, the rapper shared a statement from the house’s creative director, Denma, who wrote in part: “One needs courage and persistence to truly embrace his identity and who they really are. Every day becomes a battlefield to defend this unique identity”.
